Sḵwx̱wú7mesh [Squamish] Territory / Burnaby, B.C.– The BC Greens invite Burnaby East residents to vote in the nomination contest for the BC Green candidate for Burnaby East (BNE). This event will mark the final voting day of the nomination contest for the Burnaby East MLA candidate, culminating in the announcement of either Agnes Tong or Tara Shustarian as the selected candidate.

"The people of Burnaby East deserve a representative who truly understands the challenges they face, from environmental concerns to social justice issues," said Sonia Furstenau. "Our nominee will be someone with a deep commitment to addressing these challenges, advocating for sustainable practices and equitable policies that reflect the values of our community."

Agnes Tong is a dedicated lawyer and community leader who has spent her career assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds in navigating the complexities of the legal system. Her work focuses on advancing humanitarian and compassionate cases, particularly for those disadvantaged by barriers such as language, ethnicity, and mental health. Agnes has also been an active volunteer, contributing to organizations like the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Access Pro Bono Society of BC. If selected as the Candidate for Burnaby East, Agnes pledges to tirelessly champion the voices of her community in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.

Tara Shustarian is a passionate advocate for environmental and social justice with a robust background in activism and community service. Since immigrating to Canada in 2002, Tara has been involved in various initiatives, including the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition and the Frack Free movement. Tara's focus on participatory democracy and sustainable practices makes her a strong candidate to represent Burnaby East.

This nomination contest is about more than selecting a candidate; it's about ensuring our next MLA is a committed advocate for the community.

"Our candidates have demonstrated a profound understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in Burnaby East," added Furstenau. "The selected nominee will be tasked with championing the specific needs of our communities, ensuring that each voice is heard and that our collective future reflects the values and aspirations of Burnaby East."
