Lək̓ʷəŋən [Lekwungen] Territory / Victoria B.C. – The B.C. Green Party has announced the candidacy of David Evans for the upcoming provincial election in the Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding.
"I am thrilled to welcome David to our distinguished slate of candidates for 2024," said Sonia Furstenau, leader of the B.C. Green Party. "David’s dedication to his community and forward-thinking leadership qualities exemplify the kind of visionary candidates representing the party."
David Evans, a local business owner and community advocate in Juan de Fuca-Malahat, said, "It's an honour to serve my community, especially at such a critical time. I am committed to enacting practical solutions that honour the 'sapphires and emeralds' of our unique local environment in Juan de Fuca-Malahat while also fostering a resilient local economy."
The announcement follows a nomination contest, reflecting the party’s commitment to grassroots participation and democratic selection. David Evans secured 70.2% of the vote under the single transferable vote system. This election marked a significant milestone as the party aimed to build on the legacy of former candidate Andy MacKinnon, who was a strong contender in the previous two elections. The new Juan de Fuca-Malahat electoral area now incorporates parts of MacKinnon's former riding of Esquimalt-Metchosin.
With David Evans as the candidate, the B.C. Green Party aims to bring transformative leadership to Juan de Fuca-Malahat. Evans brings a unique blend of experience, passion, and dedication to sustainable development and community-centered policies.
“With leaders like David stepping forward, the B.C. Green Party continues demonstrating our dedication to transformative and responsible governance. David’s candidacy underscores our commitment to ensuring that the voices of Juan de Fuca-Malahat are not only heard but are integral in shaping the policies that affect their lives and environment. Together, we are setting the stage for a future where our communities thrive on the principles of equity, sustainability, and prosperity”, commented Sonia.
As the 2024 provincial election approaches, the B.C. Green Party continues to offer real, proven solutions to meet the significant challenges faced by our communities. Our candidates are prepared to work tirelessly to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for all British Columbians.
