BC Green Party Issues Cease and Desist Letter to Former Candidate Contestant Amy Haysom

August 31, 2024

Statement:

Lək̓ʷəŋən [Lekwungen] Territory / Victoria, B.C.
— The BC Green Party has taken formal legal action by issuing a cease and desist letter to Amy Haysom, a former contestant for the party’s candidacy in the Saanich North and Gulf Islands riding. This action was necessary due to Ms. Haysom's repeated breaches of the party's candidate agreement, including the dissemination of false information and failure to comply with confidentiality obligations.

The BC Green Party is committed to upholding the integrity of its candidate selection process. All individuals who seek the party's endorsement must adhere to a reasonable code of conduct, which includes honesty in their applications and respect for the party’s decisions. Unfortunately, Ms. Haysom’s actions, even prior to the party's decision to revoke her standing as a candidate, have been inconsistent with these expectations.

Despite multiple attempts to resolve this matter privately, Ms. Haysom has chosen to engage in a public campaign that misrepresents the situation and seeks to undermine the party's decision-making process. In particular, her circulation of a petition containing forged signatures, including that of Elizabeth May, is deeply troubling and has further necessitated this legal intervention.

The BC Green Party has no intention of revisiting its decision regarding Ms. Haysom’s candidacy. We encourage her to respect the terms of the agreement she signed and to cease her ongoing campaign of misinformation. Should these actions continue, the party will consider additional legal measures.
