The B.C. Green Party congratulates the Green Party of New Brunswick and Leader David Coon, who was elected this evening in the provincial riding of Fredericton South. Coon is the first Green politician elected east of B.C..

“I am simply thrilled for David and the Green Party of New Brunswick. Their breakthrough tonight is the result of years of hard work and commitment,” B.C. Green Party Interim-Leader Adam Olsen remarked. “It obviously harkens to our own breakthrough in May 2013 with the election of Andrew Weaver. Since he has come to the Legislature, he has made major contributions to his local community and provincial debates on the economy, environment, education, mental health, and a swath of other portfolios. New Brunswick is lucky to have a similarly thoughtful, passionate and principled Green join their Legislature.”

“I wish to congratulate David Coon, his team and supporters on this wonderful victory. It is a testament to all their efforts and enthusiasm that history has been made in New Brunswick,” said Andrew Weaver. “This clearly shows voters are seeking alternatives from the tired rhetoric and empty promises and actively willing to put their vote in a solutions-based party.”
