Andy MacKinnon nominated as B.C. Greens candidate in Esquimalt-Metchosin

March 09, 2017

METCHOSIN B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for Esquimalt-Metchosin, Andy MacKinnon. MacKinnon is co-author of six best-selling books about plants of western North America. He’s an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University, and a Professional Forester and Professional Biologist in B.C. Andy was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by Simon Fraser University in 2013.

“I am a forest ecologist, author and Metchosin Councillor. I am running for B.C.'s Greens in Esquimalt-Metchosin because I believe it's critical that we create a better future for British Columbians. I am absolutely convinced that the social, economic and environmental policies of B.C.'s Green Party point the way towards that better future. I am also convinced that there's enough support in this riding to elect a progressive B.C. Green MLA.”

Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, welcomed MacKinnon’s nomination.

“I am thrilled to have Andy running with the B.C. Greens team,” said Weaver. “B.C.’s forests are one of our most precious resources and Andy’s knowledge of their unique ecosystems and management requirements is unsurpassed. On top of his scientific expertise, he has done fantastic work representing his community as a municipal councillor. He would be an incredibly valuable addition to the Legislature.”
