Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Greens, issued the following statement today in recognition of Rosh Hashanah:
“This Sunday marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On behalf of my colleagues I’d like to offer our heartfelt best wishes to Jewish families and communities across Canada as they prepare to celebrate the year 5779.
“Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflecting on the past year and looking to the future with hope. It also signals the beginning of the Days of Awe and the coming of Yom Kippur. As Jewish communities gather to reflect, celebrate, and mark this special time, we hold you in our thoughts and hope that it is a peaceful holiday filled with friends and family.
“Regardless of where in the world you are celebrating Rosh Hashanah, we are thinking of you and reflecting on the essential contributions of the Jewish community to the fabric of British Columbia. We have a deep admiration for your faith and compassion, and we wish you a safe and happy New Year!
“Shanah Tovah!”
