[MEDIA RELEASE] Andrew Weaver acclaimed as BC Green Party leader

VICTORIA, BC – The Provincial Council of the BC Green Party unanimously voted to acclaim Andrew Weaver as Leader of the party on Monday, December 7th.

The party had been receiving feedback expressing a desire to have a permanent leader in place for the upcoming Vancouver–Mount Pleasant and Coquitlam–Burke Mountain by-elections.

“The past two and half years have been a time of real growth for the BC Green Party,” said Adam Olsen, the party’s former Interim Leader. “With 2017 on the horizon and a couple of by-elections due to take place in early 2016, Council felt it was important that we move forward.”

Adam Olsen has served as Interim Leader for the Party since August 2013. Membership was informed of the unanimous decision of Council earlier today by the Chair of the Party Bob Lorriman.

“I am greatly humbled by the outpouring of support that I received over the course of this Leadership process,” said Andrew Weaver. “There is a lot of work to do in order to get ready for the 2017 election, but it has never been more clear that British Columbians are looking for something new. I am excited to introduce them to the BC Green Party.”

Andrew Weaver was the sole applicant for leader. Provincial Council made this decision in accordance with party bylaws.
