Victoria, B.C. – B.C. Green Party Interim Leader Adam Olsen and Vancouver–Mount Pleasant by-election candidate Pete Fry will march in the Vancouver Pride Parade on August 2. The Vancouver Pride Society requires all political participants to sign a pledge of support for transgender equality, which the B.C. Green Party is proud to do.
“The pride parade is a celebration of the LGBTQ2+ community and its achievements, but discrimination is still a major problem in our society, especially in the form of transphobia,” Olsen said. “‘Respect for diversity’ is one of the Green Party’s six core principles. Pride parades began as marches for equal treatment for LGBTQ2+ persons and they continue to remind us of our commitment to make our society safe for all its members.”
The B.C. Green Party fully supports the inclusion gender identity and expression in the B.C. Human Rights Code.
