Tourism is a Growth Industry - 5th fastest growing sector in the world!

Did you know tourism generated over $88 billion in Canada in a year - including nearly $10 billion in government revenue and over 600,000 jobs! Did you know the Green Party Platform dedicates ONE SENTENCE to Tourism in its platform? Since tourism in BC depends largely on a pristine environment, one would wonder why that aspect of economic opportunity is ignored by the party that could stand to benefit the most by linking the two. Please start to recognize political opportunities and just where your traction is. Global figures for tourism are available and are eye-opening numbers. Green tourism....want some?

Tourism is a double-edged sword. Attracting large numbers of tourists necessarily means increased greenhouse gases from the transportation required. Tourists can have a negative impact on our parks and protected areas as development occurs to accommodate them. The jobs tend to be minimum wage. Tourism can be a more green alternative to extractive industries, but only if well managed.

Much of tourism is probably polluting and unsustainable
