Allow Filtering for Motorcycles

With the increase of accidents caused by distracted driving, motorcycles being rear ended is a major concern. It has been proven that filtering saves motorcyclist lives. Please look into introducing legislation to allow filtering for motorcycles.

I commute year round on a motorcycle (unless it is snowing) and my biggest fear is being rear ended by inattentive, distracted drivers in slow or stop and go traffic. Allowing lane filtering would allow me to move up the line between cars and completely out of harms way. This also takes me out of the traffic congestion equation by allowing me to use otherwise unused space on the road, effectively reducing traffic congestion in the process. Allowing lane filtering reduces rear end collisions with motorcycles and helps everyone get where they are going faster.

I think this is a very important issue, it would make the roads safer for motorcyclists while also reducing traffic for everyone. It’s a win-win situation!

Based on overwhelming evidence and the increased use of this practice to great effect in other jurisdictions, it would be irresponsible not to at least consider its implementation.

Allow motorcyclists to filter lanes. First we need to provide riders with the info they need to safely lane-split, and most importantly educate drivers on what lane splitting is to avoid many road rage incidents. I’ve almost been rear-ended a few times and on a motorcycle its very scary experience!

for those who ask "why should motorcycles be allowed to move between cars to get to the front of the line ? Why can’t they just wait in line like the rest of us ? " Well, I’ll ask you; Would you want to stand in traffic with the possibility of a distracted, drunk, or an elderly person who mistakes the gas for the brake pedal, coming up behind you ?

Safety of motorcyclists, motorists and traffic congestion should be of high concern

Motorcycles have the potential to be the greatest tool individuals can use to combat traffic congestion… However they’re only as useful as they are legally allowed to be.

Please consider this. Distracted driving is more and more prevalent and motorcyclists are put at risk.

I don’t want to get rear ended waiting at a light.

By smoothing traffic flow, allowing smaller, more agile vehicles to filter through idling cars and trucks will also reduce total emissions output!

I agree. Motorcyclists needs are rarely thought of because they make up such a small proportion of the population, but filtering not only provides such a group with safety, but also improves Traffic flow for all other road users as well.
