Weaver statement on flooding in Thompson-Nicola

VICTORIA B.C. – Andrew Weaver, Leader of the B.C. Green Party, released the following statement in response to flooding advisories and evacuations in the Thompson-Nicola region:

“My thoughts are with all those affected by flooding, evacuation orders and floodwatch advisories in Thompson-Nicola. My heart goes out to missing Fire Chief Clayton Cassidy and his family. I hope that he is found safe.

Cassidy was last heard from near Cache Creek this morning while checking water levels.

“To all residents in the affected areas, please stay safe and follow evacuation orders,” Weaver added. “Your safety is paramount.”

The Thompson-Nicola region (TNRD) emergency operations centre will be coordinating rescues and supplying sandbags for residents hit by various creek floods near Kamloops B.C. and other communities in the area. For information, call 1-866-377-7188.
