Weaver congratulates new P.E.I. Green MLA-elect Hannah Bell

November 27, 2017

VICTORIA B.C. – Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, released the following statement on the election of P.E.I. Green candidate Hannah Bell in a by-election for District 11 today:

“I would like to offer Hannah, P.E.I. Green Party leader Peter Bevan-Baker and the rest of their team my heartfelt congratulations for their success this evening. A tidal shift like this does not come without a tremendous amount of hard work, determination and hope, which they have demonstrated in spades.

“I know firsthand what it is like to be a party’s sole MLA in the legislature, and I know firsthand what a relief it is to finally be joined by other Green MLAs. I am thrilled for Peter, who has worked very hard to earn the trust of Islanders. He will now establish Canada’s second provincial Green caucus, less than seven months after our B.C. Green caucus was elected in May.

“People across Canada are learning what Green MLAs can do for their province. I look forward to seeing the positive change that unfolds in P.E.I. as a result of tonight’s by-election win.”
