WEST VANCOUVER B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for West Vancouver-Capilano, Dr. Michael Markwick. Markwick is an expert in democratic communication and pluralism, teaching at Capilano University and, previously, at Simon Fraser University. He was also the president of the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association. A resident of West Vancouver Capilano for many years, he was granted the 2016 Community Award by the District of West Vancouver.
Markwick will be named “Life-Changing Professor” by the students of Capilano University tomorrow evening (Thurs. Feb. 2) at 8pm at the Capilano Students Union building lounge. Media are invited to attend.
“West Vancouver-Capilano is faced with very serious challenges, from our ability to move on with our lives through gridlocked traffic, to the viability of our families, neighbourhoods and small businesses”, Markwick said. “I am standing for election to be a determined and effective champion for the needs of our community during the election and in the legislature. Life gets better for everyone with honest government. Working together, we can be sure of it.”
“I am humbled that Michael is seeking to represent his community of West Vancouver-Capilano with the B.C. Green Party”, added Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party. “His commitment to honesty and integrity in democracy is a beacon of hope for those who have lost faith in our democratic institutions. Our 2017 campaign is fundamentally about giving voters a platform to believe in and a government they can trust. Moreover, in a world that is increasingly questioning the importance of multiculturalism and diversity, Michael brings an unwavering vision of inclusion that is essential to BC’s future.”
