The sixth mass extinction will be stopped, starting right here in BC !

The fact that the planet is suffering its sixth mass extinction (more than 50% of species extinct) , this time due to our actions, is beginning to be comprehended by the electorate. This is an issue whose overwhelming importance will only become more central and important. BC Greens should adopt a slogan around this issue highlighting our commitment to restoration of biodiversity.

I’d like to see the Green Party take a leadership position on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Goals 1 and 16 are areas that I would like to see some very assertive program initiatives that the Green Party could steer to completion. Goal 1 [that has been agreed to by 193 countries around the world as of September 2015] is to eradicate poverty in all its forms everywhere. We in BC could start by making PWD an income support program that ONLY exists to replace earnings that are not available to people who can not work regular hourly jobs due to illness, mobility or other factors, that are medically certified. BC should have a party that understands that when people are on PWD – that population would be very appropriate for the introduction of the principle of a basic income. The current policy amounts to an allowed maximum income that enables stealing CPP from people, when Revenue Canada defines basic CPP as earned income. The fact that the government ignores this is the height of dehumanization. Goal 16 is overhauling dysfunctional institutional culture. This provides an opportunity to look at where our application of human rights principles ought to be grounded. How would the Green Party feel about a partnership with the Indigenous Governments of Turtle Island to see a network of legal services clinics that could cover the whole continent for the purpose of acculturating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights? This would enable natural justice to be available without money having any relevance in its availability. It would enable a continuation of Chief Art Manuel’s links with the Economic and Social Council in Geneva – so issues of systemic dehumanization can be confronted by the Council of Jurists facing evidence. This would put an end to law enforcement and politicians thinking that they can continue the use of willful blindness as an administrative tool. www.bccic.ca/gecco/
