WEST VANCOUVER B.C. – Dr. Michael Markwick, B.C. Green Party candidate for West Vancouver-Capilano, has been appointed by leader Andrew Weaver as the party’s Spokesperson for Democratic Security and Human Rights.

Markwick is an expert in democratic communication and pluralism, teaching at Capilano University and, previously, at Simon Fraser University. He was also the president of the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association. A resident of West Vancouver Capilano for many years, he was granted the 2016 Community Award by the District of West Vancouver.

“We can't take democracy for granted. Political corruption and the violation of human rights are placing the future of democracy at risk globally,” said Markwick. “I'm proud to join Andrew Weaver in making British Columbia a leader in democratic security, building an honest, open and accountable government that champions the human dignity of everyone in our province.”

“Michael’s expertise and experience is invaluable to our province,” added Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party. “He has an incredible understanding of how democracy and human rights are intertwined and the steps we need to take as a province to safeguard our democratic principles. I am delighted to appoint him as B.C. Green Party Spokesperson for Democratic Security and Human Rights.”
