Andrew Weaver statement on National Day of Mourning

April 28, 2017

VICTORIA B.C. – Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, issued the following statement recognizing the National Day of Mourning today:

“Today we take a moment to mourn workers across British Columbia who have lost their lives in work-related incidents or who suffer from occupation-related disease and injury. We also reaffirm our commitment to safe and healthy workplaces.

“No British Columbian should be forced to work in unsafe, hazardous conditions nor should they have their lives and livelihoods compromised from long-term injuries or illness. We must work collaboratively to improve work conditions to ensure the safety of every person in this province.

“Today we also recognize the diligence of advocates and labour unions in ensuring safety and healthy working conditions for workers. Their contributions have benefited millions of people throughout the history this province.”
