Getting rid of corporate, union, and foreign donations is obviously very important but it's only a first step to ridding the influence of money in politics, we need to be leaders in campaign finance reform. There are major issues such as an individual donation cap that is affordable for all citizens, most people can hardly afford to give $20, they certainly can't afford the $1525 cap that we have federally. I don't want to see my elected officials having to spend their time doing cash-for-access donation drives, they should be doing the job we elected them to do. I think the solution lies in replacing our party donation system entirely with a per-vote-subsidy or donation voucher system. There's also the issue of political advertising, leadership debates, and the potential of Super PACs arising that all need to be addressed as well.
