VICTORIA B.C. – Jonina Campell, Education Spokesperson for the B.C. Green Party and candidate for New Westminster released the following statement today regarding the news that the B.C. Teacher’s Federation (BCTF) reached a tentative agreement with the B.C. government over classroom conditions.
“I am pleased that the BCTF has finally reached an agreement with the government to restore class size and composition into their collective bargaining rights,” Campbell said. “As a former teacher and School Board Chair, I know how hard our teachers work to give our children the best possible education. Class size and composition greatly impact the ability of teachers to provide students with the attention they need to get the best head start possible in life. I am thrilled teachers will be able to get back to focusing on their students’ needs.”
Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Greens added, “I commend the BCTF on staying strong throughout this 15 year fight to restore class size and composition to their bargaining rights. Evidence tells us that education is one of the best investments you can make to ensure young people have the opportunity to succeed in our changing world. The B.C. Greens look forward to working with teachers as they continue to do this vital work.”
